Root Canal Treatment
Treatment that cleans and seals the inside of a tooth when the nerve is inflamed or infected, so the tooth can be kept rather than taken out.

Part of our department: Endodontics & Root Canal Therapy
What to expect
Your dentist examines the tooth and takes an X-ray to see the roots, then explains what they find and whether root canal treatment is the right option. The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic, the inflamed or infected tissue is removed from inside, and the canals are cleaned, shaped and sealed. Some teeth are finished in one visit, others need two. Afterwards the tooth usually needs a filling or a crown to protect it, which your dentist plans with you.
Aftercare basics
The tooth may feel tender for a few days, which usually settles. Avoid chewing hard food on that side until the final filling or crown is in place, keep brushing and flossing as normal, and come back for the review visit your dentist books. If swelling increases or pain gets worse, message us on WhatsApp.
Five questions
The questions people ask before this treatment. Anything else, ask us on WhatsApp.
Does root canal treatment hurt?
The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic before treatment starts, and you can ask for a pause at any time. Many people find the treatment relieves the pain that brought them in. Some tenderness for a few days afterwards is common.
How many visits does it take?
Often one or two, depending on the tooth, the number of canals and whether there is infection. Your dentist tells you after the examination.
Do I need a crown afterwards?
Back teeth often do, because a crown protects a tooth that has been weakened. Front teeth may only need a filling. Your dentist explains what your tooth needs.
Does my insurance cover this?
That depends on your plan and on why the treatment is needed. Send a photo of your insurance card on WhatsApp and we check your cover before your visit. Any fees are confirmed with you before treatment.
Which dentist will I see?
